Federation to discuss plans to scrap TSA with CLG
Thursday 1 July 2010
The National Housing Federation has said that it will discuss Housing Minister Grant Shapps’s reported decision to scrap the Tenant Services Authority (TSA) with Communities and Local Goverment (CLG) – as part of its regular dialogue with the department.
In response to the Mr Shapps’s interview in today’s Inside Housing, in which he talked of ‘deleting’ the TSA, Federation chief executive David Orr said: 'The Federation will discuss the minister’s proposals about the future of the TSA as part of our ongoing dialogue with CLG.
'Over the past few years, I believe that, through working closely with the Government, we have crafted an effective and modern regulatory settlement.
'If the minister considers that changes are needed, we look forward to working with him and his officials through the processes of consultation and legislation that will be necessary.
'Whatever happens, it is imperative that we have a regulatory settlement that supports the sector in its vital work of meeting housing need. That is the test against which any proposed changes must be judged.'
He added: 'In the meantime, the sector will continue its endeavours at a time of unprecedented budgetary pressures to provide new affordable housing.'
